2. Say what success actually looks like

And the pieces have to line up. If a module promises students will learn to analyze something, but the quiz just asks them to define a term, that's a mismatch, and students notice, even if they couldn't tell you exactly why something feels off.

3. Get feedback to students while it can still help

4. Don't let "online" mean "alone"

Silence reads as absence. Slow replies, vague updates, weeks without a word, even a well-run course can start to feel automated if the instructor seems checked out.

Set expectations up front: how to reach them, roughly how fast they'll respond, when live help is available, where general questions go, how to raise something serious. Tech should support the teaching. It shouldn't be a substitute for a person showing up.

5. Don't add tools just because they exist

More apps rarely means better learning. Every new tool is another login, another interface, another notification, and often another thing that just breaks at the wrong moment.
